Voices of Our Veterans

In celebration of Veterans Day, our JHHC veterans are sharing their unique perspectives on what it means to be a veteran and work at JHHC. As an organization that has been serving military families and retired veterans for over 40 years, we proudly celebrate our JHHC veterans for their patriotism and sacrifice in defense of our nation, as well as their dedication in service to our members.

Theresa Mazzaro, senior talent acquisition specialist, is well acquainted with the military family experience. The daughter of a U.S. Navy veteran, Theresa is herself a veteran of 12 years who served in the U.S. Air Force as well as the Air National Guard, where she was as a C-130 flight nurse. Theresa has an intimate understanding of the service and sacrifice military life requires. A tireless and dedicated advocate for military families, she helps recruit talent to join JHHC and support military families through Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan. JHHC is proud to employ veterans such as Theresa and honored to support the health and well-being of our military community.

Julie Ann Fenstermaker, senior project manager with the Johns Hopkins US Family Health Plan, comes to work every day motivated to improve the health of the military families and veterans JHHC serves. Having served in the U.S. Navy on active duty and in the reserves, Julie Ann does it in part because she is a veteran, too. Highly dedicated and admired by her colleagues, Julie Ann is grateful for her military experiences, saying, “When people say, ‘Thank you for your service,’ I say, ‘Thank you for your support.’ It really means so much to receive that recognition.”

Note: Effective July 10, 2023, Johns Hopkins HealthCare is now Johns Hopkins Health Plans.
